The History of SouthSide Youth Outreach

SouthSide Youth Outreach (SSYO) grew out of the kids' ministry of SouthSide Community Church which started on Tuesdays in the spring of 1997. It has grown from 12 kids to 120 kids at a typical Tuesday Club. In May 2007, SSYO was incorporated; SSYO received its IRS 501 (c) (3) tax exempt status in August of that same year.

Milestones in SouthSide's History:

April, 1997 began kids' outreach in South Corvallis called Tuesday Club
January 1998 started SouthSide Community Church
Continued Tuesday Club under the auspices of SouthSide Community Church
Moved to current building in April of 2002
Expanded programs to include mentoring, internships, summer program in 2005
Began Summer Squad in summer of 2006.
Began framework for SouthSide Youth Outreach, Inc. 2006 / 2007
Approved for addition / renovation by City Planning Commission, March 15, 2008
Incorporated SSYO, Inc. with the State of Oregon on May 22, 2007
Formed SSYO, Inc. Governing Board on July 9, 2007
Was approved for tax-exempt status on August 7, 2007
Began construction of addition/renovation, March 2008
Final sign-off by City of Corvallis on building addition, March 15, 2009
Began After Class Experience at SouthSide (ACES), September, 2009
