Summer School

SSYO partnered with Lincoln K-8 summer school in 2008 to provide a six week Summer School program aimed at boosting academic progress for those who would most benefit. The school operated from 8AM to 3PM Monday through Thursday. In the morning, classes emphasized three R's, Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic. The afternoons were dedicated to further enrichment, sports, and social skills. We received very positive response from the community.

The 2010 SSYO / Lincoln K-8 Summer School is a continuation of this partnership that has brought excellent results to the families of South Corvallis for the past two summers (2008/2009). The same model will be used in 2010 where a six-week program will be offered, first, to those children who will most benefit from an academic boost.

Each day, Monday through Thursday, the "Three R's" are emphasized in the morning session. After a well-balanced lunch, the children are taken through two hours of enrichment electives designed to have a "summer camp" with lots of activity and fun. Kids could participate in such varied activities as field games, cooking/nutrition, music, art, dance, science and gardening, among others.

Four weeks of the six are capped off with a field trip, transportation provided by SSYO. A sack lunch is provided as kids visit places such as a dairy, museums and the beach.
